James H. Voyles, Jr.

James H. Voyles, Jr.

James Voyles joined the firm in 1968 after serving as a law clerk to Indiana Attorney General John J. Dillon. He has represented clients in Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Ohio, Michigan, Montana, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and numerous counties across Indiana. Voyles is an active member of the Indianapolis Bar Association, having served terms as both vice president and president. In 2011, the association selected him for its prestigious Hon. Paul Buchanan Award. He is also a member of both the American Bar Association, the Indiana State Bar Association, the American College of Trial Lawyers, the American Board of Criminal Lawyers, and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Voyles is a member of the Indiana Supreme Court Character and Fitness Committee, and a former member of the Indiana Supreme Court Committee on Race and Gender. He is a Trustee of Illinois College and a member of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Selection Committee. Additionally, Voyles achieved the coveted AV rating by the Martindale and Hubbell Law Directory and is consistently listed in Woodward White’s Best Lawyers in America  in the area of criminal law. He has lectured for several organizations including the Indianapolis Bar Association, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the National Institute of Trial Advocacy, and public defender programs.

In his role at VVLBW, Vaiana focuses  on criminal defense, striving to produce suitable results for each client’s needs by utilizing all tools of the criminal justice system. Vaiana is a respected author and commentator, regularly co-authoring articles for Indiana Lawyer magazine and serving as a guest on WTLC and WFNI radio stations. He has been named an Indiana Super Lawyer for the years 2007-2013, inclusive, by Indianapolis Monthly and Law and Politics Magazines, and a Top 100 Trial Lawyer in Indiana for the years 2011-2013, by The National Trial Lawyers.   In 2013, he achieved www.avvo.com highest rating of Superb.  In addition, he's held memberships in The National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the National College for DUI Defense, and the criminal justice section of the Indianapolis Bar Association.

Jennifer M. Lukemeyer

Jennifer M. Lukemeyer

Jennifer Lukemeyer joined VVLBW in 1997 after serving as a public defender. She focuses her statewide practice in the area of criminal defense. She has represented people accused of murder, robbery, drug dealing/possession, forgery, gun crimes, white collar crimes, drunk driving, sex offenses, domestic violence, and minor misdemeanors. She also represents juveniles accused of crimes as well as parents at risk of having their children removed from their care. In her role as a defense attorney, Jennifer has argued cases before the Indiana Supreme Court. As another facet of her practice, Lukemeyer represents professionals whose licenses are in danger of being revoked by their respective professional boards. She also handles post-conviction relief matters, violation of probation allegations and sentence modification requests.  Her practice has included jury trials and bench trials all over the state and in federal court.

Mark C. Webb

Mark C. Webb

Prior to returning to VVLBW, Mark Webb served as executive secretary and hearing judge for the Indiana Alcohol & Tobacco Commission. Today he continues to focus on alcoholic beverage law and government relations.  Webb helps establishments throughout the state deal with both local alcoholic beverage boards and the Alcohol & Tobacco Commission in Indianapolis. He has previously served as outside counsel for the Brewers of Indiana Guild, the Indiana Licensed Beverage Association, and the Indiana Night Club Association. In his career, Webb has tried numerous cases before the Alcohol & Tobacco Commission and local alcoholic beverage boards throughout the State of Indiana.  He also regularly represents clients before the Indiana General Assembly.

Tyler D. Helmond

Tyler D. Helmond

Tyler Helmond's practice focuses on appellate advocacy, criminal defense, corporate and business concerns, and collateral issues involving arrests and convictions, including expungement, forfeiture, and licensing. He is the 2020 Chair of the Indianapolis Bar Association Appellate Practice Section. Additionally, he is a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Seventh Circuit Bar Association, the Indiana State Bar Association, and the Indianapolis Bar Association. His work has been published in The Champion, the journal of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and he has appeared as a commentator in publications including The Indiana Lawyer and Ars Technica. Helmond has argued cases before the Indiana Court of Appeals and the Indiana Supreme Court. He serves as an associate faculty member at Indiana University, and has presented on continuing legal education at the Indianapolis Bar Association and the Judicial Conference of Indiana.

Jeffrey A. Baldwin

Jeffrey A. Baldwin

Before joining VVLBW, Jeffrey Baldwin worked as a deputy prosecuting attorney in the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office. He also founded his own successful practice. Baldwin works exclusively in criminal defense, where he brings a wealth of experience. He has defended several death penalty cases and non-capital murder cases. He continues to represent clients charged in both state and federal courts, including in complex and white collar criminal matters. His appellate practice has included arguments before the Indiana Court of Appeals, the Indiana Supreme Court and the 6th and 7th Circuit Courts of Appeals on the federal level. And he has extensive experience in all aspects of criminal defense both on the state and federal court levels. Baldwin is active in a number of bar associations associated with criminal defense. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the 7th Circuit Bar Association, the Indiana State Bar Association, and the Indianapolis Bar Association. He currently serves on the criminal justice section board for the Indiana State Bar Association and the Executive Committee for the criminal justice section of the Indianapolis Bar Association.

Erin R. McNeil

Erin R. McNeil

Erin McNeil was born and raised in Bloomington, Indiana to a family of attorneys. She attended Indiana University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in neuroscience with a concentration in pharmacokinetics. After graduating, Ms. McNeil worked as a clinical research associate focusing on neurodegenerative and autoimmune diseases and treatments. Ms. McNeil matriculated to Robert H. McKinney School of Law in 2019, where she was an associate editor for Law Review and authored a Note exploring the ways in which mass incarceration has profoundly impacted public health. During her law school tenure, Ms. McNeil served as a legal intern for the Indiana ACLU. She also served as a certified legal intern for the Marion County Public Defender Agency, where she represented over 150 clients throughout various stages of the criminal process. Ms. McNeil was hired as a full-time associate for Voyles Vaiana Lukemeyer Baldwin & Webb upon successful completion of the Universal Bar Examination. Ms. McNeil’s primary practice is in criminal defense. She provides legal counseling throughout all stages of criminal prosecution, including appellate advocacy and expungement services. Ms. McNeil is dedicated to supporting her clients, understanding their needs, and providing passionate and zealous representation. Her scientific education and literacy make her unique amongst criminal law attorneys, allowing her to better understand how science and the law interact. Ms. McNeil is especially skillful at distilling complex scientific topics to more understandable terms. This expertise, combined with a thorough understanding of the law, makes Ms. McNeil a formidable legal advocate. In her spare time, Ms. McNeil enjoys a passion for travel, continuing education, and community activism. She regularly participates in the volunteer organization Food Not Bombs, which is a mutual aid service devoted to providing food, supplies, and compassion to the Indianapolis Community.
